Traffic merging into I-10 from I-310.
Hey guys, as some of you may know, I live in the lovely city of New Orleans, Louisiana. If you haven’t been watching the news, there’s a hurricane coming this way as I speak. Hurricane Gustav—which has been fluctuating between a category 3 and 4 and supposedly be hitting category 5—is scheduled to hit New Orleans on Monday. Today, I will be using this blog to post stuff that I’ve been doing to pass the time including updates to this situation.
To start off, I wasn’t sure to either evacuate or stay. At the time, no one knew where it was going and it was too far off to predict anything. On Friday night, I made the decision to move up north to Baton Rouge regardless of where the storm was going to hit. I went ahead and went to the neighborhood gas station to fill up my car. There were no regular or plus grade gas. Only premium gas at $3.99/gallon. I spent the next day packing up what I could. Unfortunately, despite one of my instructor’s warnings, I left most of my portfolio at home. He said it should be one of the first things that you should take in case of an emergency. I’m not sure why I didn’t bring it. I don’t have a valid reason.
Anyway, I called my little sister and said I was coming up since she has a place in Baton Rouge. I left around 11:30AM or 12:00PM along with one of my cousins. I was expecting some crazy traffic as I headed out but it wasn’t bad at all. I did run into some traffic but after awhile, it was smooth sailing. I managed to get to Baton Rouge in roughly two and a half hours as opposed to roughly an hour through regular traffic. So I’m here riding the storm out.

The current situation at the apartment right now.
My dad, however, is riding the storm out in the city with two of my uncles and a friend. I am not sure if he’ll eventually evacuate or not. I will keep everyone posted as much as I can. For now, pray for us all in the gulf coast.
