Welcome to version 5.0 of donkeybeatz.com. Within a few months time, I was able to learn how to develop an entire site out of WordPress. Prior to this, only my blog was running on WordPress. The rest of my site was just standard XHTML pages. I ran into a few hurdles trying to develop WordPress themes but with fierce Googling and trial and error, I was able to easily jump over them. There are some areas I have yet to touch (like e-commerce) but I’ll get around to that pretty soon I think. Anyway, the layout is based on the 960 grid system but I opted not to use the provided CSS. At least not yet.
What do you think about that slideshow on the main page? It’s probably nothing new to those who are web savvy but I was pretty excited to pull it off just by using the standard jQuery Cycle plugin in tandem with the jQuery Easing plugin. No Flash was involved since I won’t be able to view it on my phone. Also, ActionScript gives me headaches =( There are two instances of the slideshows working on top of another: One slideshow with jpg images as the background and another slideshow on top with transparent png images. One is running at a different speed (and with a different effect) than the other but they both time out at the same time. There’s also a third layer on top of everything else but it’s just a shadow overlay.
